Oil Job Scam Alert

Written by Oil Jobs Nigeria on Sep 12 2007 | Uncategorized

Beware of jobs that ask you for money! It is a job scam.

This is an important notice on fraudulent communications that have been made to members of the public which are purported to be on behalf of several existing and/or non-existing oil companies operating in Nigeria or elsewhere.

There have been recent incidents that have occurred with organisations falsely pretending to recruit on behalf of oil companies or by people claiming to work for, or be affiliated to, petroleum companies in Nigeria. These propositions notify individuals that their qualifications were found suitable to work as an employee (local or expatriate) for these oil firms and solicit the transfer of significant sums of money to pay for work permits, insurance policies, security issues etc.

Please be warned that oil companies operating in Nigeria (nor any of the organisations that recruit on their behalf) never ask for any money or payments from applicants, at any point in the recruitment process. All individuals who are successful in gaining an offer of employment from genuine job applications whether directly or indirectly, are always required to go through a formal and official recruitment process.

If you notice communications that come from regular email addresses (e.g. from a yahoo.com address); the use of English is poor; at some stage, money is requested - then it is definetely an oil job scam.

Oil Jobs Nigeria recommend that you do not respond to unsolicited business propositions and/or offers from people with whom you are unfamiliar. Do not disclose your personal or financial details to anyone you do not know. If you receive such proposals, we would advise you to contact your local police and provide them with all information you may have from the senders (email addresses, phone/fax details, etc.).
